SoJo Happening’s own Liz Battaglia is participating in the 8 Weeks to Wellness® program at Health Goals Center for Life Enhancement, and we are happy to share that after 4 weeks on the program, she is down 13 lbs and feeling fantastic! Miss something? Read about: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3
That icky ‘p’ word makes me second guess every denied take-out lunch, skipped happy hour, and discarded dessert. Not losing weight for a week feels like failure, which is especially frustrating when you feel like you’re doing everything right.
Luckily, there is hope.

Plateaus are frustrating. Luckily, they are also temporary!
Dr. Baumgardener of Health Goals told me that during the mid weeks (weeks 4-5) on the 8 Weeks to Wellness program, people can experience plateaus.
“Keep in mind,” said Dr. B, “you are losing fat but you are also gaining lean muscle mass. During the mid-weeks on the program, many people gain the same amount in lean muscle that they lose in fat, so they cancel each other out.”
Whew! So I’m not the only one. The explanation helps, and so does the knowledge that most people bounce right back the following week.
After the weigh-in, I found it more important than ever to try to meditate and “zone out” for a bit. My massage was indeed helpful (thank you Joan!) but I still needed to get my mind off of my perceived failure, even after the relaxing massage. To help me accomplish this, I popped in the Meditation CD that came with my 8 Weeks to Wellness Jump Start Kit once I got home, and let the CD do the rest.
The visualizations and breathing techniques that are on the CD are very helpful, and while I haven’t gotten the hang of meditation quite yet, I am much better than when I started. Bonus: after 20 minutes or so, my mood was perceptively improved.
So while I cannot report weight loss this week, I can report that I am still feeling good – and a heck of a lot better than I was feeling 4 weeks ago! My energy level is WAY up from when I started. Carb cravings are a thing of the past. And I still feel my body working more efficiently by taking 5 small meals a day.
I am excited to see what Week 5 holds…
Until next week!
