Beer vs. Wine, Saturday, May 19th from 7pm-11pm. Held at Atlantic City’s famous Boardwalk Hall, this one of a kind event is a concept created to solve that age old question: Beer or Wine, which is the ultimate beverage and how do they pair with delicious foods? 15 American craft breweries and 15 American wineries will be showcased, all complementing  Atlantic City’s finest restaurants. 11th Annual “Wine and Wildlife” Festival, Saturday, May 19th from 4:30pm-8pm. Enjoy a wine tasting featuring over 2 dozen different wineries, a beer sampling consisting of microbrews and a gourmet ‘picnic’ dinner. Hosted at the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, guests are given the opportunity to meet the ‘animal ambassadors,’ wander through the wildlife housing area, and enjoy the beauty of the Pinelands in the spring. Business is booming in SoJo, thanks in part to the Camden County Regional Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber is parent to 6 local Chambers – Cherry Hill, Camden, Mount Laurel, Gloucester, White Horse Pike and Winslow. Over 700 Companies are members, and with over 10 events per month, we can see why!

One of the biggest events each year is the Chamber’s Business Expo.  This year, more than 1,200 guests are expected to attend the affair, held at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill.

“People wait all year for this event,” said Chamber President, Art Campbell.

“Our members know that this is a great opportunity to meet hundreds of business people at the same time. And our guests can sample everything from home services, restaurant, recreation, as well as B2B services. ”

Besides the Expo itself, which will run from 10:00am – 4:00pm, there is a Kickoff Breakfast event.  Each year offers a different topic and expert panel taking on a different business initiative. This year, it’s about government programs that directly help businesses to hire, train and save.

“Most businesses are unaware of valuable government programs that are available to companies of all sizes,” said Campbell.

“The purpose of this breakfast is to connect businesses with the government, explain goverment programs that are meant to help businesses grow, and give tips on how to cut the red tape wherever possible.”

This year’s panel of experts includes: Freeholder Director, Louis Cappelli Jr., NJ State Assembly Majority Leader, Louis Greenwald, Caren Franzini, CEO, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, and Congressman Robert Andrews.

SoJo Happening will be at the event, looking forward to meeting our readers and finding out what else is HAPPENING in South Jersey!  

The Silver Diner in Cherry Hill is teaming up with the Original Garden State Corvette Club to present the Memorial Day Breakfast Car Show on Monday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

Open to all makes, models and years, the show will feature cars, trucks and corvettes, as well as a U.S. Armed Forces vehicle display and music.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the first 200 cars to register will receive a free T-shirt. A $20 car entry fee is required the day of the show. Trophies will be awarded to ‘Best of’ 16 different class categories at noon.

Music majors will “Come Together” to perform “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer,” “Here Comes The Sun,” “Something” and all the other hits of the classic Beatles album “Abbey Road” when they perform their semester-ending rock ensemble concert at Camden County College on May 7.

Most of the participating musicians were born in the early 1990s – more than 20 years after the 1969 release of “Abbey Road.” Despite the generation gap, the universality of the Beatles’ music has transcended. According to student Dan Darrow of Oaklyn, a drummer, most of the musicians were first introduced to Beatles music by their parents and “have loved it ever since” – both for listening and for emulating.

Rebecca Turner, a keyboard player from Audubon, agreed.

“The Beatles’ music was revolutionary,” she said. “It continues to inspire musicians today.”

As a result, said Professor Michael Billingsley, the students have been “very excited” about the “Abbey Road” concert. It was his decision to have the rock ensemble students perform all of the songs from the album for their final performance at the College.

CCC’s “Abbey Road” concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 7 in Dennis Flyer Memorial Theatre, which is located inside Lincoln Hall on the Blackwood Campus at College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road in Gloucester Township. The Camden County College Jazz Ensemble will be the opening act.
